the Origami Cranes of B Positiv

Each of the last two years at B Positiv have seen an incredible blessing bestowed upon our show ...thousands of Origami cranes! Two years ago the vision and generosity of our friend Manami Imaoka, (Director of Japanese at Jesuit HS in Portland) and her students in the Japanese program dedicated themselves to folding 1000 cranes for B Positiv 4. Japanese tradition states that if a person folds a thousand paper cranes, than they will be granted a wish. It is our wish to spread the message of love and hope from B Positiv ………….across the world!

A shrine exists in Hiroshima, Japan which is dedicated to the memory of a brave young girl named Sadako Sasaki who also battled Leukemia. (please see Sadako.org) Origami cranes from all around the world are sent each year to Hiroshima to be placed at Sadako’s monument. After the fourth B Positiv charity art show, our organizing committee was proud to have had one of the strings of cranes which were so generously crafted and donated to B Positiv, placed on the shrine in Japan in memory of so many children and their families battling cancer.

Last year the B Positiv charity art show to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society was the recipient of gigantic hug from across the Pacific and all the way to Bend, Oregon! Seeking to further the reach and message of B Positiv, Manami spoke with a friend of hers in Japan who is also a teacher.  After hearing from Manami  the story of B Positiv, She volunteered to have her class at Bandai High School in Niigata, Japan fold 1000 more origami cranes for B Positiv 5.

This incredible color burst of love and support hung proudly along side the cranes folded by their peers at Jesuit HS  in Portland! After BPositiv 5, all of these hand folded cranes were donated to the DEFEAT cancer program dedicated to cancer survivorship at the St. Charles Hospital in Bend. (defeatcancer.info)

B Positiv is proud to once again be receiving more than 2000 origami cranes, each one folded and lovingly strung by hand…. by these wonderful students in Portland and Japan!
